What this practices, and the research behind it

Sometimes we need help without wanting somebody to finish the whole thing for us. These puzzles give you a chance to locate what is confusing, choose a kind of help, and use it on your next attempt. The hints are written in advance. There is no chatbot reading your play.

The HelpCoach preprint studied 40 students learning web programming. Its prompts helped students ask more specific questions, and the group retained more knowledge at a later test. Only 30 students returned for that follow-up. It did not test this game or establish that puzzle practice prevents AI-related skill loss.

The case count records completed games, not intelligence or learning. Try taking the habit into something you want to learn: identify the step you are stuck on and ask for help with that step.
